Out of Africa is one of the World’s most hands-on facilities! The small mammals department cares for nearly 100 animals from all over the world including servals, a sloth, river otters, primates, and parrots. We do educational shows with many of our animals and work closely with the reptile department to do shows with theirs.
Applicant must be able to demonstrate abilities in the following areas:
• Performing husbandry tasks for and handling a wide variety of mammals, birds, and reptiles
• Assisting with minor veterinary procedures
• Keeping habitats and diet preparation areas clean and sanitary
• Preparing meat and vegetarian diets
• Record-keeping
• Performing daily educational presentations on microphone to large crowds
• Landscaping and habitat maintenance
• Performing inventory evaluations
• Maintaining a strong work ethic both independently as well as with coworkers

Education and Pre-requisites

• Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years experience working with reptiles, mammals, and birds
• Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
• Must be able to commit to 40 hours per week, year around
• Must be able to work outside in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
• Must posses a high school diploma or equivalent but a college degree in an animal related field is a plus
• Must have valid ID and reliable transportation to work
• Must be capable of lifting 50+ pounds
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Compensation and benefits

• $9- $12 depending on experience
• Benefits consist of paid sick days and holidays after a 3-month probationary period, and vacation with pay after one year
• We currently offer no health insurance
