Description

The reptile department at Out of Africa Wildlife Park encompasses a wide variety of over 50 different animal species including:
• Pythons, boas, venomous snakes, venomous and non-venomous lizards, caiman, and tortoises. Many of these species are very rare, very large, and possibly very dangerous. We also take care of several parrot species including macaws.

Applicant must be able to demonstrate abilities in the following areas:
• Performing husbandry tasks for and handling a variety of birds and reptiles
• Performing daily educational presentations on microphone to large crowds about the reptiles in our department
• Assisting with minor veterinary procedures
• Keeping habitats and prep areas clean and sanitary
• Preparing meat and vegetarian diets
• Record-keeping
• Landscaping and habitat maintenance
• Performing inventory evaluations

We are currently looking for a new team member who has several years of reptile and bird experience. We have an expansive collection of snakes and lizards and we are a VERY hands-on facility. Because of this, a high level of competence must be exhibited every day when handling and caring for our collection. All sources of experience are accepted including personal pets, pet shops, and zoos.

Education and Pre-requisites

• Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with reptiles
• Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
• Must be able to commit to 40 hours per week, year around
• Must be able to work outside in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
• Must posses a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must have valid ID and reliable transportation to work
• Must be capable of lifting 60+ pounds
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Compensation and benefits

• Depends on experience
• Benefits consist of paid sick days and holidays after a 3-month probationary period, and vacation with pay after one year. No health insurance provided.
