Description

West Texas Wildlife Preserve is a 240-acre facility, located just outside of Abilene Texas. This facility is home to a diverse collection of animals: consisting of giraffe, kudu, oryx, zebras and other various hoofed stock species. As well as tapirs, kangaroos, a wide assortment of birds including hornbills, flamingos, jays, geese, swans, waterfowl, and more.
• Perform good husbandry practices for a large variety of species
• Perform habitat cleaning, maintenance, landscaping, repair, and construction.
• Prepare healthy diets, monitor individual animal food consumption.
• Interface with veterinary and suppliers

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and have the physical ability to perform strenuous work. Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs or more.

Education and Pre-requisites

• 1+ years of paid experience in a zoological park, wildlife management or breeding center
• Non-smoking work environment.
• Bachelors degree recommended, but not required
• Must be willing to work weekends and holidays
• Must be able to commit to 40 hours per week, year around
• Must be able to work outside in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
• Must have valid ID and reliable transportation to work
• Must be capable of lifting 50+ pounds
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Compensation and benefits

• Pay is based on experience
• Benefits consist of paid sick days and holidays after a 3-month probationary period, and vacation with pay after one year
