DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
To consistently and accurately provide a safe and sanitary environment for the animals and employees. This position demonstrates job knowledge and skills to effectively complete the daily routines of the Animal Care and Animal Training Department. Observes and applies operant conditioning techniques to at least half the collection under the supervision of a Trainer II/Area Lead/Senior Trainer. Provide professional and courteous customer service to guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Clean and maintain assigned exhibits and support areas.
• Observe animal behavior and report unusual/abnormal behavior to supervisor.
• Prepare animal diets and feed according to established procedures.
• Deliver majority of show segments
• Perform all primary functions for animal interaction programs and education programs
• Weigh and transport all animals
• Assist senior staff in safe animal restraints and veterinary procedures.
• Work all auxiliary functions in the department as assigned
• Maintain water quality, filtration, and disinfection of animal habitats/exhibits basic water chemistry for marine mammal exhibits required.
• Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of department areas.
• Plan and direct the work of seasonal staff in primary area of responsibility
• Communicate procedures and work duties to support staff when absent.
• Adhere to all governmental/AMMPA policies regarding acquisition, husbandry, records, and animal health.
• Perform related duties as assigned
• Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe work practices to supervisor and / or Human Resources.
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
• Provide exceptional guest services
• Abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook.

REQUESTED REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
• Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Intermediate personal computer skills, including email, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Basic knowledge pertaining to the husbandry of birds and mammals.
• Basic knowledge of training principles and how to apply those principals.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with animals through reinforcement history.
• Understand basic behavioral problem solving and demonstrate sound judgment.
• Ability to train new behaviors.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to precisely follow complex instructions provided both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays as required, including the ability to work a rotating shift as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must have the physical ability to lift 50 pounds, walk, stoop, bend, reach, and the ability to perform strenuous duties while both in and out of water.

Education and Pre-requisites

Applicants must have the following requirements prior to submitting their application:
Minimum of 1 year of animal training experience in an interactive or show facility
•Bachelors or Associates degree or equivalent animal training experience
•SCUBA certification
•Microphone and public speaking skills

Compensation and benefits

Based on experience. Health/ Dental for full time employment.
